Cefixime + Ofloxacin Oral Suspension is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in children. It combines a third-generation cephalosporin (Cefixime) and a fluoroquinolone (Ofloxacin), offering enhanced antibacterial coverage.

📌 Composition (Typical per 5 ml after reconstitution)

• Cefixime (as trihydrate): 50 mg

• Ofloxacin: 50 mg

• Form: Dry powder for oral suspension

• After Reconstitution: Becomes a uniform suspension (e.g., 30 ml or 60 ml)

• Flavour: Usually fruit-flavored (e.g., mango, strawberry) for pediatric use

• Pharmacopoeial Standard: IP (Indian Pharmacopoeia)

… Indications / Uses

Prescribed to treat:

• Typhoid fever (especially resistant strains)

• Acute gastroenteritis or diarrhea with suspected bacterial cause

• Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Otitis media (ear infections)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

šï Side Effects

Common:

• Nausea, vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Abdominal pain

• Taste disturbances

Serious but rare (mainly due to Ofloxacin):

• Joint or tendon pain (especially in long-term use)

• Photosensitivity (sunburn-like reactions)

• Dizziness or headache

• Allergic reactions

🚫 Precautions

• Avoid in infants under 1 year (Ofloxacin is not recommended due to cartilage toxicity risk)

• Not for viral infections

• Use with caution in children with seizure disorders or CNS problems

• Monitor for tendon pain or swelling

• Avoid concurrent use of antacids within 2 hours of dosing (reduces absorption)

🔠Reconstitution Instructions

1. Tap bottle to loosen the dry powder

2. Add boiled and cooled water up to the marked line on the label

3. Shake well until fully mixed

4. Store in refrigerator after reconstitution

5. Use within 7“10 days

• Before reconstitution: Cool, dry place below 25C

• After reconstitution: Refrigerate (2“8C)

• Do not freeze
