Itraconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal used to treat various systemic and superficial fungal infections. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, leading to fungal death.

Strength: 200 mg
Form: Capsules (usually blue/yellow or blue/red)
Standard: BP (British Pharmacopoeia)
Itraconazole 200 mg capsules are prescribed for:
Histoplasmosis
Blastomycosis
Aspergillosis
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)
Tinea corporis, cruris, pedis (ringworm, jock itch, athletes foot)
Pityriasis versicolor
Candidiasis (oral, esophageal, or vaginal)
ð Standard Adult Dose:
200 mg once or twice daily, depending on infection type
ð Common Regimens:
Onychomycosis (toenail): 200 mg once daily for 12 weeks
Fingernail infection: 200 mg once daily for 6 weeks
Tinea infections: 200 mg once daily for 715 days
Best taken with a full meal (especially a fatty meal) to improve absorption.
Do not open or crush the capsules.

Nausea
Headache
Stomach upset
Mild rash
Elevated liver enzymes
Serious (rare):
Liver toxicity (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)
Heart failure symptoms (shortness of breath, swelling)
Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)
Not recommended in patients with heart failure
Use caution in those with liver or kidney disease
Avoid alcohol during treatment
Pregnancy Category C avoid unless absolutely necessary

Itraconazole interacts with many drugs including:
Antacids (reduce absorption)
Warfarin
Statins
Certain antibiotics and antiarrhythmics
