Sultamicillin is an oral antibiotic composed of Ampicillin and Sulbactam. It combines the penicillin antibiotic (ampicillin) with a beta-lactamase inhibitor (sulbactam) to overcome bacterial resistance.
Ampicillin equivalent to 375 mg
Usually this means 250 mg ampicillin + 125 mg sulbactam (ratio 2:1)
Sultamicillin is used to treat bacterial infections such as:
Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Skin and soft tissue infections
ENT infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media)
Gynecological infections
Bone and joint infections
Typical adult dose: 375 mg every 8 to 12 hours (usually twice or thrice daily)
Take after food to reduce stomach upset
Duration depends on infection severity (usually 514 days)
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea
Rash or allergic reactions
Abdominal discomfort
Rare: severe allergic reaction or Clostridium difficile diarrhea
Allergy to penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics
History of liver or kidney disease
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (consult your doctor)
