Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid production. The gastro-resistant (enteric-coated) formulation ensures the tablet bypasses the stomach and dissolves in the intestine, preventing degradation by gastric acid.

🔠Typical Composition (per tablet):

… Uses / Indications:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

• Erosive esophagitis

• Duodenal and gastric ulcers

• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (acid hypersecretion)

• H. pylori eradication (in combination therapy)

• Acid-related dyspepsia

🊠Dosage & Administration:

• Usual adult dose: 1 tablet once daily (preferably before breakfast)

• For H. pylori: Usually prescribed as part of triple therapy (with antibiotics)

• Do not crush or chew ” swallow whole with water

🕠Onset & Duration:

• Onset: Within 1 hour

• Duration: Acid suppression lasts up to 24 hours

šï Precautions:

• Use cautiously in long-term therapy (risk of B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, or bone fractures)

• Not recommended in children without medical supervision

• Avoid in known hypersensitivity to rabeprazole or other PPIs

• Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed

• Monitor liver function in long-term use

🔄 Drug Interactions:

• Reduced absorption of drugs needing acidic pH (e.g., ketoconazole, iron supplements)

• May affect blood levels of warfarin, digoxin, and methotrexate
