Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial skin infections. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including some MRSA strains) and Streptococcus species.

Base: Usually in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) ointment base
Mupirocin 2% Ointment is used to treat:
Impetigo (common in children)
Furunculosis (boils)
Infected cuts, wounds, or abrasions
Infected eczema
Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus (with intranasal formulation, not this one)
Folliculitis
Minor skin infections caused by Staph. aureus and Strep. pyogenes
Clean and dry the affected area.
Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area 23 times daily.
Can be covered with a sterile bandage or gauze if needed.
Wash hands before and after application.
ð Typical treatment duration: 510 days.
ï If no improvement in 35 days, consult your doctor.
Common (usually mild):
Burning or stinging sensation
Itching
Redness or dryness
Rare but serious:
Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
Localized irritation or contact dermatitis
For external use only
Do not apply inside the nose, eyes, mouth, or vagina
Not for large open wounds or burns (due to PEG base absorption risk)
Discontinue if irritation or allergic reaction occurs
Use with caution in renal impairment (due to PEG base)
Store at room temperature (below 25C)
Keep tube tightly closed
Protect from heat and sunlight
Keep out of reach of children
