Linezolid Tablets IP is an oxazolidinone-class antibacterial agent used in the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE).
Linezolid works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 23S portion of the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the formation of the 70S initiation complex essential for the bacterial translation process. This unique mechanism helps reduce cross-resistance with other antibiotic classes.
Each film-coated tablet contains:
Linezolid IP ï 600 mg (commonly available strength)
Pharmacokinetics:
Linezolid is well absorbed orally, with nearly 100% bioavailability. Peak plasma concentrations are typically achieved within 1 to 2 hours after administration. It is widely distributed throughout body tissues and fluids and is eliminated via both renal and non-renal pathways.
Indications include:
Nosocomial pneumonia
Community-acquired pneumonia
Skin and soft tissue infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
Infections caused by multi-drug resistant gram-positive organisms, including MRSA and VRE
