About Deflazacort Tablets

ï Uses / Indications:

• Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) ï a major approved indication

• Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, polymyositis

• Severe allergies & skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis)

• Nephrotic syndrome

• Asthma, bronchitis, COPD exacerbations

• Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohnïs, ulcerative colitis)

• Post-transplant immunosuppression

• Autoimmune hematological disorders (e.g., ITP)

ï Dosage & Administration:

ï Always take after food to reduce stomach upset
ï Morning dose preferred to mimic natural cortisol rhythm
ïï Do not stop suddenly ï taper gradually as per physician's advice

ïï Precautions:

• Use with caution in:

  • Diabetes or pre-diabetes

  • Hypertension

  • Osteoporosis

  • Peptic ulcers

  • Infections (latent or active TB, fungal infections)

• May suppress immune response ï avoid live vaccines

• Long-term use in children may affect growth

ï Possible Side Effects:

• Can interact with:

  • Antidiabetic drugs (ïï effectiveness)

  • NSAIDs (ïï GI bleeding risk)

  • Antifungals, anticonvulsants (alter metabolism)
