🴠Permethrin Lotion 5% w/v

Permethrin 5% Lotion is a topical antiparasitic medication used primarily to treat scabies (caused by Sarcoptes scabiei) and lice infestations. It is effective by paralyzing and killing parasites and their eggs.

• Scabies:

  • Infestation by the scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei)

• Pediculosis (Lice):

  • Head lice, body lice, pubic lice (off-label use)

🕠How to Use (for Scabies Treatment)

1. Clean and dry the skin thoroughly before application.

2. Apply a thin layer of lotion to the entire body, from neck to toes, including soles, between fingers and toes, and under fingernails.

   • For infants and elderly, apply to the scalp, face (excluding eyes/mouth), and ears as well.

3. Leave it on the skin for 8“14 hours (overnight is common).

4. After the time is up, wash off thoroughly with soap and water.

5. Reapply after 7 days if live mites or new burrows appear.

🴠How to Use (for Head Lice)

Note: Though 1% lotion is more common for lice, 5% may be used under medical supervision.

1. Apply to dry hair and scalp, covering roots and behind ears.

2. Leave for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

3. Use a nit comb to remove dead lice and eggs.

4. Repeat after 7 days if needed.

šï Side Effects

Common (mild & temporary):

• Itching or tingling

• Burning or stinging sensation

• Redness or mild skin irritation

Rare but serious:

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

📌 Note: Itching may continue for up to 2“4 weeks after treatment due to allergic response to dead mites ” not necessarily treatment failure.

🚫 Precautions

• For external use only ” avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, genitals, and broken skin

• Not recommended for:

  • Children under 2 months

  • People with hypersensitivity to pyrethroids

• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only on medical advice
